I am running Vista. It was until now that I tried to copy a 4.7gb movie. I realized that there was no appropriate software installed on the PC that would let me do that, so I tried to install Nero. I first tried to install Nero 6, but there were compability issues, so I tried Nero 7, and it went further. Midways through the installation, an internal error occured. I don't want to install Roxio, because it takes a whole lot of space, and Nero doesn't as much. Can anyone help me?

Nero 7 Issue
Nero 7 doesn't work with Vista. Nero 6 does, just ignore the compatability error, that has to do with inCD/drive image. Nero burning rom itselfs works fine. NeroExpress I don't think does but who uses that anyway.

I understand that there was an update to Nero7 last Friday (June 23rd) is this the version that you are using?

lucky you.
I even got the blue screen while trying to get nero 7 to work. I haven't tried to use nero 6.6 yet. Nero doesn't show any sign in making nero 7 compatable. They just made the installer package abort now when trying to install on Vista. By the way, does anybody know how to get Nero 7 to stop leaving those userimages bitmap in every other directory?
I also tried to install Nero 7 and the system would incur some error in the middle of the installation so i tried Nero 6 and it is working just fine for me.

Nero 7 works fine. You need to do a custom install, deselect all items except Burning Rom. It installs but gives an error message at the end. You will then need to open the Nero folder and pin the exe to the start menu (right click of the mouse) as it fails to create a program folder.
Incidentally don't download the latest version 7.2.3.2b. Gives an error message that it is not compatible with Vista. Folks at Nero haven't got the brains to put a warning on their website about it.

It would be interesting to know if the built-in DVD Maker and drag-and-drop to filesystem DVDs still work in Vista after you install Nero. If you get a chance to try those out, let us know.

I tried to install Roxio. So much didn't work that I uninstalled it. Don't bother with it for now. I have had some luck with ULead Movie Factory, but there is no sound in the video editing module, so that makes it difficult to use. I'm still experimenting with other parts of the program.

Have you considered testing or trying out the built-in CD and DVD burning tools? Like drag-and-drop to CDs and DVDs. Might be worth a try. Do a little beta testing while you have the beta.

I have no problems using DVD Maker along with Nero 7. I drag and drop files for burning to DVD-RAM. Haven't tried to CD as I use DVD's. Erases DVD-RW also and burns them okay.
Only problem I have is that Movie Maker crashes as soon as I try to add a picture. I suspect it is the video driver.
